Recent letters in The Argus about blocked drains in Brighton and Hove reminded me of the days when street drains were checked regularly and unblocked when necessary, especially in the autumn and winter months.
In those days, not so long ago, people didn’t have to traipse up and down the streets with their bags of rubbish and recycling because we had door-to-door collections.
Now that the Green Party has decided to abolish these collections in most of Brighton and Hove, things have become more dodgy for many residents. We are now into the autumn and the fallen leaves and overflow from communal bins can sometimes make things worse.
At Seven Dials and elsewhere, vulnerable people do not have the option of holding on to solid railings, other than poorly situated cycle racks, now the Green Party has got rid of them (as well as pelican crossings) in the name of so-called “decluttering”.
Please can Brighton and Hove City Council (together with Cityclean managers) pay some attention to these basic and essential concerns, which can affect people’s safety and wellbeing.
