Have you ever thought about Take That singer Gary Barlow and wondered, Why Can’t I Wake Up With You?
Well now you can – or at least with Gary’s voice. The I Found Heaven singer – now a judge on ITV’s X Factor – is up for auction.
Or rather a collection of cassette tapes recorded by Gary before he hit the big time with hits such as Pray, Promises and Relight My Fire is.
The collection to be sold on Friday includes nine cassette tapes containing approximately 100 tracks and is expected to raise between £1,000 and £2,000.
Simon Garner, works of art specialist at Bellmans Auctioneers in Wisborough Green, near Billingshurst, said: “I am extremely excited about the sale of the Gary Barlow tapes and look forward to seeing the market value for such a unique collection of items, especially due to Gary Barlow’s popularity.”
Interested buyers can currently view the contents of the stash ahead of the auction.
However auctioneers have warned the successful bidder cannot Do What U Like with them as they come with licensing restrictions as a condition of the sale.
This means the buyer must apply to the relevant authorities to obtain copyright and other reproduction rights before sharing their find with the wider public.
The cassette tapes were composed and recorded by Gary between 1986 and 1990 and include him singing, accompanied by an electronic keyboard. The majority of the tracks are unreleased.
Five tracks were later released on Take That albums including A Million Love Songs released on Everything Changes in 1993, and Nobody Else, which was released in 1995.
Eight of the cassette cards are inscribed in Barlow’s hand with the track listings and four are signed by Gary himself.
