A letter in The Argus from Michael Keay (October 3) posed questions about the refuse collection leaflets he had received from Brighton and Hove City Council.
His scans showed an error whereby it wasn’t clear whether his collection was on a Monday or a Thursday.
He wanted to know the cost of the leaflets, the number sent out, how many were in error and who was responsible for sending and checking them.
Well Michael, if you lived just over the border in Adur, all of your questions would be unnecessary as our council solved the problem many years ago.
Every time there is a bank holiday, our collection time just moves on a day. No spending of taxpayers’ money on leaflets, baffling or otherwise, and no reorganising, yet again, of the refuse depot workforce.
It’s a cost-free formula which works well and I fail to see why Michael’s council does not follow suit. It would certainly save a fair bit of money at a time when council spending is under a great deal of pressure.
You never know, the council might save enough money to cover the costs of installing even more 20 mph signs.

It was good to confirm that I, and others I have spoken to, are not, after all, thick in not understanding the leaflet concerning the new refuse collection dates.
If you read it as is stated, everyone in the Brighton and Hove area will be having a collection every Monday. It beggars belief that no one could have edited the leaflet before going to print. Does this mean therefore that another print run will have to be made, thus costing the taxpayer more money that can be ill afforded?

My leaflet stated that my recycling would change to Wednesdays fortnightly, starting on October 2. I put my bins out at 10pm on Tuesday for a collection on Wednesday as per the leaflet, but had to bring it back in on Friday, still full. Also, my refuse collection states Wednesday but, as per Mr Keay’s scan in The Argus, underneath it says collection will be on Mondays.
Maybe someone could tell us how to use this coded leaflet.
