There is a buzz around the city as mystery creatures keep popping up in the woods.
Bees hand-made by the Bees in the Woods exhibiting artists are being left around Brighton and Hove for the public to find. Each bee has an invitation to visit various shows.
The mastermind behind the idea, called Bee Bombing, is Mia Underwood, who said: “The aim of the exhibition is to help spread the word that bees need our help and to educate the public on how they can do their bit to help reverse the decline in the bee population.”
Mia hopes the University of Sussex will pick up on a project in Stanmer Park.
She said: “The giant wooden honeycomb structure will be filled with different sized bamboo and drilled holes in wooden logs to attract a range of solitary bees to make their nest in.
“You can tell if a drilled hole or bamboo cane has been used as the bee blocks it off with wax, then the young bees will fly out the following year.
“If this is used for a scientific study by the University of Sussex, then it can be monitored to see how well the bee population is doing in this area.”
The Bees In The Woods art exhibition will open at the ONCA Gallery this weekend.
