The Prime Minister spelt out a clear, positive vision for the country, outlining help for those people who work hard and do the right thing, for instance helping young people buy their own home, getting the long-term unemployed back to work, freezing fuel duty, cutting the deficit and creating jobs.
The economy appears to have turned a corner, with unemployment and youth unemployment here in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven falling, the number of people in work in the city has also increased and a record number of businesses have started up. This is all welcome news but there is no complacency at all and the message from the Prime Minister was very much that there is more still to do.
We need to ensure people have more money in their pockets every month, that is why the Government has made funds available to freeze Council Tax, is freezing fuel duty and cutting taxes for the lowest paid.
The choice in 2015 will be clear. More debt, more borrowing and more taxes under Labour or lower taxes and economic opportunity with the Conservatives.
Whilst party conferences are always more partisan than “normal” weeks I am now looking forward to heading back to Brighton and continuing to work hard for all residents, regardless of how they vote.
