Green Councillor Pete West says 160 people, 89 pedestrians, were killed or injured on the city’s roads but doesn’t tell us how these occurred (Letters, September 27).
So how many of these accidents occurred in bus lanes, Mr West, in or around St Peter’s Church, for example? There are no cars involved there.
How many occurred such as I witnessed recently when a woman stepped straight on to a crossing into the path of a bus, not bothering to check if anything was coming because she was engrossed with her phone?
How many were caused by the likes of the cyclist I saw go through a red light, at night, with no lights and wearing big stereo headphones, completely oblivious to the accident he nearly caused?
As for the parking fees, the Greens, like the ConDems, are using selective information to justify their actions, killing the city I love and grew up in, and turning it into a student ghetto of their supporters.
When the Greens were elected, I truly thought they would improve things. But, like the Lib Dems, all we got in reality was another minority party, a political party imposing its will on the people, like some South American junta, forgetting that we pay their wages.
The sooner we see the backs of them, the better.
