This year's Brighton Digital Festival has attracted record visitors, with more than 25,000 people taking part in hundreds of events across the city.

The organisers said the month-long event has demonstrated the power of new technology to transform everyday life.

The most popular event was the Brighton Mini Maker Faire at Brighton Dome in Church Street, which pulled in 6,000 people.

Tom Bailey, festival director, vowed the event would return next year. He said: “The size and diversity of the Brighton Digital Festival is a fantastic reflection of the broad range of exciting things which happen in our fair city and the huge network of independent organisers from the cultural, creative, digital and information technology sectors who make it all happen and provide something for everyone, be it families wanting to entertain, workers seeking inspiration or programmers looking for the next big software game changer.

“The festival provokes collaboration across areas of expertise, work, and interest, and offers an important platform with which we can all take a moment to consider the transformative effects of ‘digital’ on almost every aspect of our lives.

“Once the dust has settled on this year’s hugely successful festival we’ll continue the work of looking forward, which I expect will include another application to Arts Council England alongside conversations with potential commercial partners to build the reach and diversity of the Brighton Digital Festival even further for 2014.

“Many of the events sold out within minutes of tickets being made available, including BrightonSEO, Black Mirror with Charlie Brooker and Break the Mould.”

Digital expert Rebecca Watkin organised an event called Film Show & Tell. She said: “People interested in film could watch local-made short films, and discuss them.

“Brighton Digital Festival is great for Brighton and the digital and creative community as there is just so much inspiring stuff going on.

“As an event organiser it was a brilliant platform for me to reach the local film-making community.”
