A thousand people turned up to wave goodbye to a pioneering frozen yoghurt shop at the weekend.
Lovers of the refreshing snack stretched through the Lanes on Sunday as popular firm Lick closed its doors for good.
Lick’s owners, Ky Wright and Owain Williams, who opened the shop in 2008, are shifting their business from the high street to supplying supermarkets and wholesale.
But it wasn’t a completely sombre affair after shop staff served free frozen yoghurt as large crowds, some from as far away as Eastbourne and Worthing, waited in warm temperatures.
Sara Barnes-Wehrle, 36, and Rachel Barnes- Wehrle, 47, said: “Looking at the queue you would have thought there was a boy-band in the shop, but it is very admirable that they are giving it away free.”
Doors finally opened at 11.09 after a wait of more than an hour for those at the front of the queue.
Co-owner Ky said: “I did not expect this reaction at all. We put it on Facebook and received a couple of hundred comments, which were a mixture of sadness at the closure but glad we are doing well.”
Lick will not disappear – the product will still be sold at Komedia comedy club, as well as hosting various city pop-up shops and music events.
