Two more people were killed in Sussex on Sunday night when two cars collided in Upwaltham, near Chichester, killing two elderly women.

One burst into flames, but the two men inside escaped. Firefighters had to cut the driver and passengers free from the second car, in which the two women were travelling.

They died at the scene and two other people were taken by ambulance to Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Police are appealing for further witnesses to both crashes. They would like to speak anyone who was travelling on the A29 around 8pm. Officers particularly want to speak to a cyclist who was seen in the area and would have seen the collision.

Sergeant Stewart Goodwin from the road policing team said: "The cyclist we would like to speak to was travelling north on the A29 but we have no further description of them at all. However they are a key witness to what happened and we urge them to get in touch.

"Anyone who has not spoken to us is asked to contact us on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Barnward."

Any witnesses to the crash on Sunday night are asked to call police on 101 quoting Operation Ardington.
