More than 5,000 schoolgirls are to be offered vaccinations against cervical cancer.
School nurses from Sussex Community NHS Trust will be working to vaccinate all girls in Year 8 in Brighton and Hove and West Sussex.
The inoculations will also be offered to girls in Years 9, 10 and 11, who have not had the vaccination already.
The vaccine protects women from two types of human papilloma virus (HPV) that together cause around 70% of cervical cancers.
Immunisation specialist nurse Sara Conway said: “This vaccine will save lives. We want as many girls as possible to benefit from this vaccine and we would urge everyone who is offered it to take it.
“Parents can discuss any aspect of the vaccination programme with their daughter’s school nurse or contact their immunisation team.”
The Brighton and Hove team is on 01273 696011 ext 4249 and the West Sussex team can be contacted on 01243 815832.
