Men are being urged to step up and do their bit for charity.

The annual Martlets Noon Walk takes place on October 13 and organisers are calling on as many men and boys aged 12 and over as possible to take part.

The 13-mile coastal walk is for men and boys only and is the male equivalent of the annual Martlets Midnight Walk for women, which took place earlier this year.

All money raised goes to the Martlets Hospice in Wayfield Avenue, Hove.

Sussex Police Chief Inspector Simon Nelson completed the challenge with his two sons last year.

He said: “Having recovered from cancer, I am one of the lucky ones, but I knew of the Martlets and the dignity and support I could have found with them if I had needed it.

“I had a great dad's day out with my boys during the walk, when we had time to talk about all sorts of things while raising money for such an essential service.

“It was a real challenge for them and they enjoyed a real sense of achievement that will always stay with all three of us."

The walk starts at the County Cricket Ground in Hove and heads along the coast to Saltdean Lido before returning to the cricket ground.

People can also choose to do a shorter walk, turning around at the Palace Pier.
