A music group are as bold as brass after picking up a national award.
The Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Band were victorious after taking part in the finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Even the road to the finals held in Cheltenham last weekend was difficult for the band who had to raise funds for transport costs.
Months of preparation paid off after the band’s rendition of Penlee by Simon Dobson – to mark the 16 crew of the Penlee Lifeboat who died in December 1981 – wowed judges who crowned them Third Section National Champions.
Musical Director Ian Stewart said: “I’m very proud of every single member of the band.
“They performed to the best of their ability and this helped us to create a really atmospheric performance, which both judges described as a very good performance, showing plenty of character and understanding of the music.”
