Celebrations are taking place across Brighton and Hove on Tuesday to mark Older People’s Day.

The day is aimed at bringing older and younger people together to create better understanding and respect.

Impact Initiatives, a charity which manages projects and services supporting people of all generations across Sussex, has been awarded a grant from Brighton and Hove City Council to organise a series of events with other organisations.

Tuesday’s events will end with the glittering Brighton and Hove Older People’s Awards at The Grand hotel in Brighton, supported by The Argus.

Impact Initiatives operations director Caroline Ridley said: “This is a very new and exciting opportunity for Impact Initiatives to work with other organisations in the city and highlight the amazing contribution older people make on a day to day basis.

“It is also a great way to see how the old and young communities interact.

“I also think it is wonderful and well overdue to have an awards ceremony that celebrates and thanks our older community for everything they have done and still do.”

A timetable of events has been created throughout the city for everyone to take part in during the run up to Tuesday and on the day itself.

Yesterday children from theWASP After School Club challenged a group of people over 50 to a range of competitions at the City Academy in Whitehawk, including Wii sports, a quiz and apple bobbing.
