A popular city centre restaurant has re-opened after a devastating fire.

Pinocchio, an Italian restaurant in New Road, Brighton, closed its doors in January after a blaze gutted its kitchen, parts of the basement and caused damage to its roof.

The popular haunt is billed as the oldest Italian restaurant and pizzeria in the city and proved a big hit with the city’s theatregoers before the fire.

But after eight months of renovation work the restaurant is again welcoming customers back to taste the delights of its Italian cuisine.

Sue Addis, from the restaurant, said: “We’re so pleased to be open again. The fire completely took everything out, it was such a shame. But it’s really nice seeing the place back on its feet now.

“When we did the renovation we discovered two more skylights on the first floor. There’s a lot more natural light in there now and it’s looking beautiful.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their messages of support and look forward to welcoming back both old and new customers.”
