A hospice has been awarded more than £170,000 lottery cash.
St Peter and St James in North Chailey will use the money to pay for a clinical nurse specialist to provide care and support to patients and families in their own homes.
The specialists work with patients to enable them to access appropriate clinical care as well as psychosocial, spiritual and therapeutic services, such as counselling and physiotherapy, which can help improve their quality of life.
Hospice chief executive Colin Burgess said: “While many people associate the service we provide with the hospice building, the reality is the majority of patients for whom our seven clinical nurse specialists provide support and care continue to live at home.

“In the current difficult financial climate this generous grant will assure our current and future patients in the Lewes area that we will be able to continue to meet their needs.”
Patient referrals for the clinical nurse specialist service have increased from 299 to 352 over the last five years and the total number of patients supported increased from 440 to 541 per year.
The hospice cares for people in the Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Uckfield and surrounding villages.
