It's more usually the place to go for second-hand clothes, computer games and sporting memorabilia - but one businessman has turned to eBay to help him sell his taxi firm.

Steve Barlow has placed Worthing-based taxi firm Starlight Cabs on eBay and Gumtree for £90,000.

The 44-year-old has owned the firm for the last three and half years but is looking to move into a less stressful industry.

The firm is the second biggest taxi company in the town and has been operating for about 30 years.

The online offer promises any potential buyer “massive potential for growth”, 27 staff, a business office with a seven year lease and a potential income for any new owner of up to £1,800 a week.

The company, which is based in South Down View Way in Worthing, also runs a taxi driver school training new drivers to gain their private hire licence.

Bidders have ten days before the online gavel comes down.

Mr Barlow said: “I am just looking to move into a less stressful industry, I have a lot of drivers to look after.

“I guess the biggest drawback is that it’s a 24/7 business.

“You always need to be at the end of the phone, I have got to come rushing in and sort something out if anything goes wrong.

“Probably the best thing about the job is that you get to own your own business and you get a regular working income from day one.”

Mr Barlow, who had previously worked as a taxi driver in his 20s before taking over the business in his 40s, said the business was a good prospect.

He said he had had several initial enquires already. He added: “For the drivers, the business is actually ticking over nicely at the moment. We have a lot of free phones across the town which help.

“I put it on eBay because it is a good source to try to sell it cheaply. If it’s not successful then I will have to put it on business sites which are more expensive.”
