Children are being offered a safe haven after school at One Church in Gloucester Place, Brighton.
As well as a quiet room to study in and access to computers, 10-16 year olds are given help with their homework by volunteers as part of the One Youth Project.
The safehouse was launched last year and has opened its doors again this term after it proved to be a success.
Jeremy Withers, 23, a project volunteer explained: “The club is a good opportunity for young people to come along and get the help they wouldn’t necessary get anywhere else, allowing them to extend their learning beyond school.”
The children are given dinner and encouraged to spend time sitting together round a table to discuss topics.
“This helps to provide a family meal feeling for them,” said Mr Withers.
During their two hours at the club, children are given hub time’where volunteers hold different projects that last for four weeks.
Projects have included music and film making activities.
The club has recently set up a recording studio as well as a large scale games room where children can play table tennis and snooker.
Project manager, Sally Macleod, 29, said: “The activities and projects help to boost the children’s confidence and self-esteem.”
