Simon Philips (Letters, September 16) raises an important point about the now mandatory bus lane in Lewes Road, Brighton, and the danger posed to motorists who wish to cross legitimately to turn left into Coldean Lane.

The same thing happened to me when I attempted to cross the bus lane to turn left into Coldean Lane; I was almost hit by a car speeding up the bus lane.

In my case, this was not just a near miss but was accompanied by numerous hand gestures as well as other acts that are normal in cases of road rage.

This junction is clearly unsafe and should be changed to prevent the serious accident that Mr Philips and I fortunately avoided.
