One wonders whether the Government has seriously thought through the dangers and problems which will surely arise from allowing a fracking company to drill for shale gas in Balcombe.
Not only is this a very beautiful green area, where walkers, cyclists and visitors can enjoy the countryside, fresh air and wildlife but it is also an inhabited area, and very close to Brighton.
The Government sees this from the point of view of job creation and energy, but outweighing this is the very great danger of contamination from chemicals used, pollution, destruction of nature and the possibility that, because of drilling so deeply, we could disturb the fragile balance of the area and cause earthquakes.
Fracking has already started in parts of Italy and nearby regions are suffering earthquakes.
Once drilling has taken place in Balcombe, other areas and beauty spots will be seized and ruined.
When all householders are being told they must have water meters fitted in order to save water in the South East, the fracking process will use up more water than all Sussex households put together.
Why is the British Government not investing in renewable energy, which would create far more employment in the long run?
My vote in the next general and local elections will go to whoever can stop the rape of our beautiful countryside.
