I was surprised to read about a disabled bus passenger in Brighton claiming that bus drivers “get angry” with wheelchair users (The Argus, September 17).

The story states that special training is provided for accommodating people with disabilities.

As a disabled bus-user, I have encountered numerous instances of rudeness from bus drivers.

When I have contacted the company to complain, I have never received a reply.

On one occasion, when a driver put his ramp down to let off a disabled passenger, the ramp got stuck and the driver lost his temper with the disabled passenger.

Myself and another passenger were so shocked that we felt obliged to intervene on the disabled passenger’s behalf.

I have also seen drivers pull away because someone disabled or elderly got to the door a bit later than other passengers due to their mobility problems.

I feel this matter needs to be looked at in depth and efficient training given to all drivers.

During the past three years that I have been using my powerhouse wheelchair on the buses, the vast majority of drivers have been more than helpful.

There have been three instances over this time where I reported them to the bus company, which dealt with the drivers.

I have a card issued to me stating that my chair is acceptable to travel. The service is good, but not perfect.
