I would certainly welcome 20mph in the streets where I live.
With a park, children’s playground and school nearby and small residential streets bounded by a main road to the south and the railway to the north I am horrified by how many cars come racing along, many clearly exceeding the present 30mph limit.
I fear first and foremost for the children on their way to school or running to and from the park but also for pets and wildlife.
They all risk injury or death on the roads. No driver should be in so much of a hurry around these streets that they can’t stick to a sensible speed limit. Anyone who objects to “20 is plenty” is just being selfish and blinkered.
Let’s turn our residential streets back into safe places for our children to use.

I am glad that the road I live in has a 20mph limit as it has two schools on it and is very dangerous.
People park on the pavements and it is mayhem at 9am and 3pm.
I only wish people would stick to the speed limit.
Being a hill, cyclists struggle and cars make more noise, revving to go up or braking coming down.
At night it would also be a lot quieter if they did stick to 20mph.
I find driving at 20mph in town completely acceptable. You still get somewhere just as fast, and more safely.

I am amazed at the hostility to the 20mph zone in Brighton and Hove.
It makes such obvious sense – saving lives, reducing injuries and generally making living in the city a much better experience.
I am a driver and recently went right across the city through the zone behind another car.
The driver was obviously ignoring the new limit and was speeding up, slowing down, speeding up and slowing down. I just drove at a steady 20mph. After a mile and a half, I was still immediately behind the other car, whose driver had ignored the limit.
How stupid! I have found it has made no difference to my journey times but made the driving experience much more relaxed. I hope the zone will be extended further.
