I think your coverage of Alejandro Fernandez-Holt from the X Factor (pictured right) opening the revamped Debra store in York Place, Brighton, was mean-spirited to him and the charity (The Argus, September 12).
I am a volunteer at this store and object to your writer making a point not once but twice that there were no hordes of fans to welcome Alejandro at the store – extremely unfair seeing as it was a visit arranged with less than 24 hours’ notice and unpublicised apart from signs in the window an hour in advance on a Wednesday lunchtime.
Alejandro appeared, unpaid, out of the goodness of his heart as a supporter of the charity, sang for the customers, served in the shop and signed autographs for the many teenage girls who showed up after school – long after your journalist had gone. In addition, the only thing the charity requested was that an appeal appeared in the piece, asking for volunteers.
It did not. So, anyone interested in volunteering for our Debra shops in Brighton should call 01273 699726.
