The huge turnout for the Save The DGH march on Saturday, September 7 (The Argus, September 9) was not just about maternity services. It was about the total erosion of core services at a hospital serving more than 100,000 people including paediatrics, A&E, general surgery and many other services.
Eastbourne has the fastest growing population of 25-45-year-olds in Sussex and, like Hastings, needs to retain all consultant-led core services without having to make the death-defying A259 journey to Hastings.
As the cross-party speakers said at the rally, one way of saving large amounts of money would be to remove unnecessary layers of administration, starting at the top.
