The family of a motorcyclist killed at a crash “blackspot” are calling for the road to be improved.

Nearly 3,000 people have so far signed an online petition following the death of Rob Giacopazzi, of Bognor, on Sunday, August 25 at 2pm.

Mr Giacopazzi, 48, died at the scene on the A259 Crookthorn Lane, Climping, near Bognor, after his Yamaha bike was struck by a Vauxhall Corsa.

The A259 connects Bognor and Littlehampton and Mr Giacopazzi’s family, including sister Rebecca Giacopazzi – who he was due to walk down the aisle in a few weeks, want improvements to be made to the junction, which is the responsibility of West Sussex County Council.

The petition they have published said: “The Arun Council and Climping Parish Council call it a blackspot – we urge them to do something.

“Traffic lights, roundabout, no right turn from Yapton Lane.

“10,000 signatures to take the petition to Downing Street.

“We demand a change in the petition.

“We want Rob to be the very last person to be killed when road changes would make this avoidable.

“His loss is devastating – five weeks and five days before he was walking younger sister Rebecca down the aisle.”

Other people have supported the family’s call.

William Wilson said: “The blind bend, the stupid bushes and trees almost hiding what comes round and the general layout of the carriageway is a joke.

“The exits are haywire and the site here has had so many accidents it should have had a facelift and redeveloped long ago.”

Amanda Bye said: “It’s too late to save our old friend’s life but it’s not to late to save someone else’s.

“Put traffic lights in or wait for some other lives to be devastated.”

Paul Gray said: “This junction is dangerous. I travel from Littlehampton to Bognor and back every day and always slow down for this junction.

“The trees block the view and the sun is blinding. This is one hazardous blackspot.”

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: “The area was subject to a route safety scheme a few years back, when among other measures the speed limit was lowered to 40mph from 60mph.”

A Bognor woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and bailed until October 26.
