Cyclists pedalled up to ten times between Brighton’s Palace Pier and Worthing Pier in a fundraising event which smashed its target.

Staff from property agent Hamptons International South East Region raised more than £2,700 for Cancer Research UK.

The agents pledged to pedal the 11 miles between the two piers as many times as possible yesterday, with the 25 cyclists completed distances between 11 and 110 miles.

Each member of the team aimed to raise £100 which would have raised a total of £2,500. But last night the total was still rising as more sponsorship rolled in.

The cyclists set off from the Palace Pier at 9.45am.

Lynne Crockett and Andrew Falmer cycled the furthest distance with both clocking up 70 miles each.

Organiser Ali Martin said 30 members of staff took part from across the Hamptons International South East region.

She said: “It was an amazing day and we are thrilled that we have beaten our target. Everyone said it was a lot of fun – and a lot of jelly beans have been eaten.”

Karen Standing, regional lettings director of Hamptons South East Region said: “We were excited about the challenge – it was a great initiative involving the entire region.

“On the day, there were three Hamptons International pit stops, one located at the Palace Pier, another at the halfway point at Shoreham footbridge and a final one at Worthing Pier.

“We are grateful to all those who came down, joined in the fun and cheered on our cyclists.

“It was a great day and offered a sense of achievement for all involved. Overall it is fantastic opportunity to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity, Cancer Research UK.”

The firm has so far raised more than £50,000 for the cancer charity through various events.
