The bus provider of Guernsey, CTPlus, introduced a two-tier fare structure for local and non-local passengers this year. It has not been well received.
To pay the cheaper fare, proof of residence has to be shown for every journey and all passengers are charged the higher fare if this is not forthcoming.
Many businesses in Guernsey are reliant on the tourist industry and there have been letters in the local press from visitors complaining about having to pay double the local bus fare, stating they will not be visiting the island again.
In Brighton and Hove, parking fees have already been set to deter the use of cars. It would be madness if visitors to our city were discouraged further by a similar scheme to the one in Guernsey.
