Robbers knocked a man unconscious and stole his motorised skateboard.
The 32-year-old victim, who is well-known for his distinctive mode of transport, was in Preston Park at the time of the attack.
He was riding the skateboard when he was approached by four men at about 11pm on Friday, September 6.
One distracted him while another hit him from behind and knocked him unconscious.
His skateboard, a rucksack containing a Samsung Galaxy tablet, and a wallet were all stolen.
DC Paul Candy, Brighton CID, said: "Fortunately the victim escaped serious harm and did not require hospital treatment, but he sustained a lump and bruise to his head as a result of the attack.
"Anyone looking to sell the skateboard may struggle to do so as they're quite rare and the victim is well known in Brighton for riding round on his."
The model is a Rokit Science Boom Borda 2 with large offroad tyres.
Witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting serial 1882 of 06/09, email contact.centre@sussex.pnn.police.uk, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 08000 555111.
