I have lived in Brighton all my 50-odd years and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
However, I recently visited Bournemouth for a family do. What a lovely, clean and beautiful place.
When walking on the seafront, I thought I’d check out the parking fees: £3 for five to six hours.
Why, then, did I have to pay £3.50 for one hour’s parking at the back of London Road in Brighton? It’s grim – both the area and the parking cost.
Compare Brighton to Bournemouth and they are both seaside towns with similar house prices, both have a young generation with universities and colleges and similar shops.
So why does Brighton and Hove City Council charge these prices when another like-for-like busy seaside town doesn’t need to?
As much as I love Brighton, I think I could love Bournemouth just as much.
