Once again, we, the taxpayer, have to pay for the clean-up of Wild Park in Brighton after travellers have been evicted (The Argus, September 6).

I think many city residents would welcome a properly organised meeting with the police and members of Brighton and Hove City Council. Those of us who pay our taxes are fed-up with our money being used to clean up after these people.

The fact that someone opened the gate and let them in to the park is enough to make the calmest of residents furious.

Whatever obstacles are installed to stop them just don’t seem to work. If they hurt themselves, or damage their vehicles while trying to illegally enter the park, this should be their own responsibility.

There is an old saying, “Don’t break the rules and you won’t get hurt.” That is simple enough for most people to understand.

In the coming weeks they may well move on for the winter.

During the next few months a proper solution needs to be found to avoid us going through all this upset and expense next year.

However, I do realise we have a Green council policy whereby it seems everyone is welcome here, no matter what.

Your article about travellers being allowed into Wild Park by the local authority because they had been acting dangerously by mounting the pavement and driving over mounds to gain access made my blood boil.

I was involved in an accident recently in the centre of Brighton.

Myself and the other driver pulled up on to the pavement so we could exchange details and allow the traffic around us to move.

We were swooped upon and told to immediately move away as we were illegally parked.

Would it have been different if I had been driving a camper van?

Perhaps I could have stayed for a few weeks’ holiday and had a bin delivered.

Is that fair cop or not?
