A woman arrested on suspicion of murder after a man's dead body was found in Seven Sisters Country Park has been released on bail.
The 78-year-old woman from Croydon who is known to the victim has been bailed until October 10.
Police were called at 2.30am by the ambulance service and discovered the dead man, beelieved to be about 70 years old, on a pathway leading to the sea.
The man has not yet been formally identified by next of kin.
Acting DCI Jon Fanner, from the Major Crime Team, said: "We are continuing to investigate this tragic incident and are appealing to anyone who was in the country park on Thursday afternoon or evening (5 September) and may have seen an elderly couple behaving unusually or what would appear to be out of character.
"We also believe they were staying in Brighton so would like to hear from anyone who was on a bus travelling from the city to the Seven Sisters area and who saw an elderly couple get off at this location."
The car park at Exceat was closed, along with the park to the east side of the old river meanders, while investigations were carried out but has now re-opened."
