Vic Parks is right (Letters, August 28) – the Greens want to drive the motorist out of Brighton.

All the so-called road improvements for bicycles, buses and pedestrians point to the real Green objective: to introduce a road congestion charge.

However, they will not call it that as it will result in an outcry from residents and a lot of lost votes.

To get around the problem, it will be called something like the City Green Road Tax or Cleaner Emissions Tax.

As for the Seven Dials improvements, this area is now more dangerous than before and it’s not even finished yet.

There are no safety barriers to show pedestrians the safest place to cross and no bleeping lights for the visually impaired. In the past six weeks, I have had 28 pedestrians walk straight across the junctions in front of me instead of walking 15ft to the new zebra crossings.

When the Dials are finished and the island is larger, I can see people taking the shortest route and walking diagonally straight across.

Who will the council blame when there is an accident? Oh, I know, the motorist. Well done for creating a less safe crossing than before, at great expense.
