Beach-goers will be saying a wet farewell to the summer season with heavy showers this weekend – but don’t despair there is still plenty going on in the city.
Brighton and Hove celebrated the last of the summer sunshine yesterday with temperatures reaching a high of 28.9C in Wiggonholt, near Pulborough.
However today will be a different story with showers forecast from lunchtime.
A spokesman at the Met Office said: “Big changes will occur with the weather, with temperatures dropping 10C after a heavy band of rain today.
“The public should be aware that there is a risk of localised disruption due to flooding with 20mm of rain predicted.”
Tomorrow will be a similar story with temperatures staying at 17C.
Sunday will see a return of sunshine with sunny intervals, but early forecasts predicting a return of heavy rain on Monday.
Despite the poor weather, the city is preparing to welcome packed crowds to various events.
For music lovers, Brighton hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks are in town to celebrate the release of their second album with a pop-up store.
Jordan and Harley will be signing album copies at The Old Courtroom in Church Street and will perform with a full live band for the first 150 people through the door.
For food lovers the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival continues with several events over the weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday Boho Gelato will be joining forces with local food producers, restaurants and attractions to create at over 20 Brighton-themed ice creams and sorbets using ingredients and recipes from around the town.
Also on is the Big Sussex Market – with over 80 growers, producers and restaurateurs showcasing the best Sussex food and drink.
Crowds are also expected to gather at The Brighton Digital Festival which kicked off this week.
The festival, which runs throughout September, is hosting the Mini Maker Faire this weekend. The faire brings together makers from all over the country to show their projects, share their passion for making, and inspire visitors to have a go at making things themselves.
The Brighton Sand Sculpture Festival continues this weekend. The theme park is based at Black Rock and is open every day until September 30.
Gallery-goers can head down to Brighton Museum and Art Gallery over the weekend, where Ice Age Sussex has opened- for people to discover what the disappearance of ice from the poles could mean for our survival.
