Several of my friends and their neighbours have their evenings ruined by screaming children outside their homes, so we were pleased to see the report by Tim Ridgway (The Argus, August 27).

In North Portslade there is a park on Chalky Road, yet regularly I see a group of children between the ages of 7 and 12 running riot after sundown in the street, presenting a danger to traffic as they play in the road.

They cause misery for the middle-aged, well-mannered generation.

I believe it comes down to lazy parenting. Yes, six weeks is a challenge for all parents but there is a minority of council tenants who make no effort with their children at all.

The nuisance can be addressed in two ways: the law, as a misuse of the high way; and as a breach of their parents’ tenancy agreement.
