Reading recent stories about people finding eggs in their gardens (Letters, August 23), I have one to add.

About three months ago I was dead-heading plants in a garden tub when I thought a big stone had appeared out of the compost.

On dusting it off, I discovered it was an egg. I covered it up as I found it. When showing my gardener a few days later, he believed it had been left by a fox.

I checked daily and, after about a month, it just disappeared – no mess, just a hole.

That’s one more story to add to the disappearance of a fat ball.
