Rob Heale makes a good case for a new pier in Brighton (Letters, August 29).

A visit to the Richard Rogers exhibition Inside Out at the Royal Academy in London might provide inspiration. A hybrid of his early Zip Up House on stilts and a recent proposal to envelop the Southbank Centre with a canopy could be employed to great effect, projecting a structure out to sea to provide a large open space under a shell built on a substantial base.

This leisure hub would be partly outside with a Dome-like interior for multiple entertainment/conference use.

It could replace the Brighton Centre, which needs a revamp anyway. Let’s hope Richard Rogers might be inspired to offer a scheme and Brighton can find a way to build such a project.
