I fully agree with the comments made by TV chef Jamie Oliver, who has said how “lazy” he feels British workers can be (The Argus, August 29).
I’ve been in the catering industry for 35 years, employing hundreds of people to work in my public houses and restaurants.
I would pick a European immigrant who’s legally allowed to work in the UK over a young British person – British people whinge and complain far too much.
Eastern European people have a positive work ethic and basic common sense. You only have to look around Brighton during the day and see who’s unemployed, who’s drunk, who expects this world to owe them everything they want dumped on their laps – that’s right, the British.
Good on Jamie Oliver for stating what every retailer and caterer has known for years. No one should be surprised by this statement. Stop making excuses for the work-shy, demanding British youth.

I am 100% with Jamie Oliver and agree with the 80-100 hours a week he worked in his prime.
Every fit person in his or her prime years can work double the hours and earn double the money, which obviously opens up more doors of opportunity, as Mr Oliver himself found out.
There are no Rolls Royces for working a lifetime of 40 hours or fewer.
If you are a sensible person, and work the hours, your life will be very different.
But you’re not going to do it on 37-and- a-half hours with four weeks’ holiday.
