Time is running out to get your nominations in for this year's Argus Achievement Awards (AAA).

The closing date for entries for the October 6 ceremony is on Saturday - leaving you just four days.

We have had an unprecedented number of entries for some of the 19 categories but still need more for others.

In particular we want to hear your suggestions for Green Project or Person of the Year, Carer of the Year, Grandparent of the Year, Public Services, Community Event and Contribution to Sussex Sport.

Brighton and Hove City Council's Carelink has already been shortlisted for Public Service of the year award.

The emergency alarm system supports vulnerable people in their own homes.

Richard Kennedy, of Reading Road, Brighton, nominated the service.

He said: “Having had the community alarm installed for mum it gave my family lots of reassurance knowing that in an emergency mum was able to get help.

“The staff are always helpful and a very dedicated caring team.

“For only £3.35 a week this service is first class and the staff should be recognised for all their hard work.”

Another of the categories still in need of nominations is Community Event of the Year.

Sue Stevens, of Eastcourt Road, Worthing, nominated the Worthing Churches Homeless Projects Art Event.

The charity event saw artist donate a number of pieces of work which were then auctioned off for more than £4,000.

Ms Stevens said: “This event wasn't just about the money.

“It was about helping people understand the many varied reasons why people become homeless.

“It was a huge success and many visitors were moved to tears.

“It involved artists of all ages from all over the country and some from Spain and the Dominican Republic who produced something colourful and different whilst also spreading the word about the event itself.

“It was a brilliant and moving event to be involved with.”

The above two nominations are given as an example of the calibre of entry we are after.

We also still want your suggestions for the remaining categories including Charity of the Year, Outstanding Pupil of the Year, Parent of the Year, Business in the Community, Local Hero, Volunteer of the Year, Beyond the Call of Duty, Teacher of the Year, Contribution to Arts and Culture, Achiever of the Year, School of the Year and the Carol Barnes Courageous Child of the Year.
