The country's first ever frozen yoghurt shop is to close – despite the owners having more business than ever.

In 2008, Owain Williams and Ky Wright had people licking their lips as they cut the tape at Lick in Gardner Street, Brighton.

But despite being named the number one frozen yoghurt shop in the UK and queues regularly stretching out the door, the pair have decided to cool their high street ambitions.

Instead, they will pour all their energies into supplying supermarkets and wholesalers with their take-home tubs.

Ky said the last few years had been “incredible”, adding: “It has been a tough decision, and difficult for some people to understand when they see the long queues stretching out of the shop door.

“But we have to focus our energy and time on manufacture and distribution so that Lick will be available across the whole of the UK, and beyond.”

The store's window now features a goodbye message explaining why they're shutting up shop and their plans for the future. 

It also promises free frozen yoghurt on its last day, Sunday September 29 - while stocks last.

Owain and Ky began developing the fat-free product while still at school in Tenby, south Wales and started selling it from a tricycle during their school holidays.

After opening in Brighton’s North Laine, their product is now on sale in Ocado, Wholefoods, COOK, Picturehouse Cinemas and Holiday Inn.

A closing party will be held on September 29 at the shop, where free yoghurt will be served until they run out.
