An injured man told worried passersby he had been stabbed - when in fact he had only tripped over.
Police were called to the bottom of St James’s Street, Brighton, at around 4:30 this morning after reports a man had been wounded with a knife.
But when they arrived to help the man, they found he had only fallen over and hurt himself.
Witness Nick Packham tweeted the man had been “telling people he'd been stabbed in the neck”.
But Brighton and Hove City Police replied: “A man fell and hurt his face. Police helped ambulance staff who treated him at the scene.”
