The victim of an aggravated robbery woke his neighbours screaming for help in the early hours of Friday morning.
Residents in Addison Road, Hove, were woken at about 1.50am to the noise of a man shouting, “Help me, call the police”.
One woman, who asked not to be named, said she looked out the window to see the victim, who lives in the street, running down the road.
She said: “He had managed to escape but they had chased him and he had his head smashed through the window of a camper van belonging to my friend.
“The police were searching the street,” she added.
“A friend saw the man this morning and he said, ‘I don’t like this street – I’m leaving’.”
Sussex Police said four men allegedly broke in and stole £300.
Yesterday the front door to the victim’s home was boarded up.
A Sussex Police statement said: “Three men, a 34-year-old, a 32-year-old and a 29-year-old, were arrested on the Sussex and Surrey border at Hooley on suspicion of aggravated burglary after a break in at a home in Hove in the early hours of Friday morning.”
