Children were invited to create artwork for a new playground shelter.

The Great Elephant Adventure morning was held on Friday and was hosted by Brighton and Hove City Council and local artists from Threshold which won the commission to design the shelter.

The shelter has been planned in tribute to the fabled elephant of Wish Park.

Wish Park is rumoured to have an elephant buried its grounds after it died while with the circus.

Children turned up with elephant- related ideas, including poems, words associated with elephants, jokes and drawings that could be included on the shelter.

The shelter is part of improvements being made to the playground in Wish Park which are being funded through Section 106 contributions from the development of the Nuffield Hospital in New Church Road.

A council spokesman said: “Everyone was encouraged to engage with this exciting community project by writing poems and drawing pictures of elephants.”
