Two teenagers have been found guilty of stabbing a man in a vicious attack over a mobile phone which led to the victim losing his arms and legs.
Eighteen-year-old student Dominic Brookes, from Bramble Close in Croydon, and a 17-year-old boy from Worthing, who can’t be named for legal reasons, are set to be jailed for GBH with intent following a four week trial.
The jury however were unable to reach a verdict on two other defendants.
Unemployed pair Patrick Brookes, 26 from Clifton Road in Worthing, and Jeramiah Reynolds, 25 from Ascham End in North London, remain in custody pending a retrial decision.
Ernest “Joe” Moyo, 25, was attacked as he left a party in Pavilion Road in Worthing on Saturday August 11 2012.
He was stabbed in the leg and stomach and was left in the road fighting for his life.
After infection spread and his vital organs were put in danger, the decision by doctors was made to amputate his arms and legs.
Joe's long term girlfriend, Amy Dunne said: “It has been very hard for myself and both our families and friends to come to terms with the life changing injuries he received.
“Joe and myself will have to deal with his injuries everyday as we make a future together, making our lives totally different from what they would have been.”
Detective Inspector Andy Westwood at Worthing CID said: "The injuries Joe sustained from the stab wounds have meant he had to have his limbs amputated and therefore the consequences of that night will be with him for the rest of his life.”
Brookes and the 17-year-old will be sentenced on October 4 at Hove Crown Court.
