A golfing sensation can now call himself a national champion following his most recent victory.

Fifteen-year-old Marco Penge, who lives in Horsham, continued his brilliant season by becoming the English Boys under-16 and under-15 champion.

The talented youngster played through scorching conditions at Seacroft Golf Club in Lincolnshire where he finished one under par for the championship.

This was three strokes ahead of his England colleague Bradley Moore and home player Billy Spooner.

The superstar has gone from being ranked 4,000 in the world amateur rankings at the start of 2013 to a ranking of 512.

By the end of the year he is hoping to move further up the ranks to at least 300.

Angelo Penge, Marco’s father, said: “I feel really proud of him. We are just so proud of him for what he has achieved.

“He is very ambitious and very focused, he’s always practising. He’s very dedicated to his golf and it’s amazing what he’s achieved at such a young age.”

Marco’s golfing story began by accident when his mother bought his father a set of golf clubs for his 40th birthday.

Mr Penge used to take Marco to play golf with him and soon realised that even at the tender age of five years old, his son had a knack for the sport.

When he turned seven, Marco began to compete in golf competitions and became a scratch golfer when he was 13.

He currently plays for the England Boys’ squad, which he said is an “absolute honour”.

But the ambitious teen has no plans of slowing down stating that he aims to continue winning as many titles as possible and hopefully be selected for the Walker Cup when he turns 17 in a couple of years’ time.
