Having just had family staying from the city of Sunderland, they had reason to use the public toilets on Brighton seafront.

Never have I been so embarrassed – they were utterly disgusting and had obviously not been cleaned in a very long time.

I was ashamed of being a Brighton resident. The council makes no effort at all to cater for residents or, more importantly, the tourists of which there are many.

Some would like to enjoy our city by day, and are not here for the nightlife.

From the beginning of Hove to the end of Brighton and up to London Road everything is filthy, unwelcoming and unkempt.

Where are the flowers, fresh paint, street entertainers, working fountains and tourist information points like in other cities?

And don’t even get me started about the exorbitant charges for food and parking. Other UK cities leave Brighton and Hove behind.
