I despair about what the Greens are doing to Brighton and Hove. They are now going to make the whole of Brighton and Hove a 20mph area.
With extortionate parking fees, bus lane chaos, draconian enforcement and more restrictions on motorists, it seems they are trying to drive cars out of the city.
The Green Party seems to believe this will somehow “save the planet”. Is this one minority group in society trying to impose its beliefs on the rest out of self-interest?
Pedal power is all very well if you are young and fit but when one is getting old, jumping on a bike is not much fun.
I travel a great deal and having a means of private transport is not only a source of pleasure but one of necessity.
Public transport is held up as “the answer”, even though big, smoky diesel buses have few passengers for much of the day. Greens would be frightened to fund research into the impact of this on the carbon footprint.
On my own and at 68, dancing is an important part of my life. This activity entails a considerable amount of travel.
To go dancing in Worthing from Hollingbury takes me about 20 minutes by car. If I used public transport it could take two hours or more, depending on connections.
As most dances end at 11pm or midnight, I would have to end this valuable social outlet.
Perhaps the Greens feel that I should vegetate in front of the TV and wait to die?
Us “ordinary people” put up with the hassle the Greens throw at us to maintain what little bit of independence private transport gives us.
Labour is trying to find a policy to inspire the voters – becoming the motorist’s friend could be an election-winner. But then, all political parties have Green zealots.
It is left to the rag-tag Ukip to defend motorists and what older people believe to be “the good society”. I believe there is much anger among residents.
Where are the protest groups? Does apathy rule OK?
