An MP has written to a council chief to highlight concerns over the use of parking fees as a “stealth tax”.
Hove MP Mike Weatherley sent a letter to Brighton and Hove City Council’s chief executive Penny Thompson, following a recent High Court ruling.
Last month judges ruled the steep rise Barnet Council applied to its resident permits was illegal.
The Tory MP said he feared profit is top of the agenda for the council when deciding on whether or not to introduce controlled parking.
Mr Weatherley added that he contacted the chief executive for “clarification on the matter” adding that, if true, it would be “totally unacceptable”.
