A woman who was found dead at her home on Friday morning (August 23) has been named as Claire Louise Richards.

The 39-year-old was discovered unconscious in her Orme Road, Worthing home at around 11am.

Paramedics attempted to save the woman but she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police arrested a 39-year-old local man on suspicion of murder on Friday afternoon.

He has since been released on bail until November 14 while enquiries continue.

The man and the deceased were known to each other.

A post-mortem examination, which was carried out at Worthing Hospital yesterday, proved inconclusive.

Further forensic tests are to be carried out in order to help establish the cause of death.

A force spokesman said: "It is still very early in the investigation, which is being carried out by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team.

“We are trying to establish what happened and are following up all possible lines of enquiry."
