Habitat for butterflies and other insects has been destroyed yet again by Brighton and Hove’s Green council.
This has been a good summer for a lot of butterflies but, while the weather has been more favourable to butterflies, unfortunately Brighton’s and Hove City Council has not.
Two years ago, a large 40-acre field adjacent to Wild Park was cut in the height of summer – now the same thing has happened again.
Surely it is basic common sense that you do not cut the grass at this time of year (the field is not used to make hay). This field was well used by butterflies and other insects and there were a number of wild flowers growing there.
I would assume the basic everyday running of simple things like allowing a field to be cut at the right time of year is down to council officers.
The council has 23 well-paid senior officers (all earning more than £70,000), who remain in their well-paid jobs regardless of which party is elected.
It’s about time these officers were made more accountable for things like this.
Just who is in control at the council? The party elected by the public or the officers?
