I am appalled and angered to read about the destruction of Patch the Staffordshire bull terrier by its owners (The Argus, August 20).

They admit to rowing in their high-rise flat in front of Patch, which would have stressed him considerably.

It understandably got upset and sought to protect what it perceived to be the threatened party. They then both turned on it, further freaking it out.

Then, despite it having no history of aggression, they had him destroyed. Shameful.

The fault lies with them, not the dog.
