A football legend scored a TV hit with a nostalgic trip to a Sussex school.
Gary Lineker visited Christ’s Hospital School, near Horsham, to trace his ancestral roots as part of the BBC1 series Who Do You Think You Are?
The show, screened on Wednesday night, topped the viewing figures nationwide.
Gary visited the school in January to hunt down his four times great-grandfather, Thomas Billingham, who was a scholar there from 1798-1804.
Most of the filming took place in the school’s museum, which holds pupil records dating back to 1563.
The ex-England striker even took time off from the hunt to play football with pupils in the school sports hall.
David Messenger, director of sport at Christ’s Hospital, said: “In spite of the boys’ excellent defence skills, Gary proved he hadn’t lost his touch and scored a goal.”
